We started our weekend off on Friday. We met some friends after work at Village Cay for drinks. The main purpose of the outing was to say goodbye to California Ryan, who is venturing off to the big city – George Town, Cayman Islands. Nikki and I left the boys to opt for a more quiet table where we ordered some food. We ordered two plates of sushi complimented with a glass of pinot grigio. It was the first time I ate sushi with authentic crab! We ended the night at Tortola’s hottest night spot – the Bat Cave – a local bar at the village cay marina. Again, Sir Richard Branson is known to frequent this little hole in the wall, but tonight it was just us!
Rise and shine Saturday morning – our weekend was dedicated to making our pup Dundee happy. A bit lazy since we moved into our house, we have not hung any curtains in our bedroom window. Most days we wake up to go to work before the alarm wakes us. Saturday morning was no different. We woke up, packed a work out bag and a beach bag. We went on our regular work out routine, and quickly went to the beach to catch some sun.

One of the least populated beaches is on Beef Island, connected to Tortola by a small bridge. Beef Island holds the airport, a few cafes, and two spectacular beaches. The lack of tourists on this beach made it an attractive site for us to take Dundee on his first day out to the beach. We visited Trellis bay, and were surprisingly welcomed by a calm waters. Because BVI has trade winds most of the year, the beaches are known to be wavy and great for sailing and surfing. However, today was a great day for swimming!

We started our walk to the beach through the Loose Mongoose Restaurant, where a party of people was enjoying their lunch. Dundee, a wee bit excited, ran through the restaurant straight to the beach. He walked into the water knee high and immediately cauked his leg and released the longest pee in the ocean! - Right in from of the group of lunch takers. A bit embarrassed, Ben quickly cleared the air and enlightened the group with his comment - “we all do it”.
From our point of view, what makes the BVI better than the Cayman Islands, is that there are no restrictions against cute little rotties (and all other mutts) on the beach. Dundee is always welcome to all beaches.
Originally we thought the Caribbean sun would be too hot for our snow eating monster. We don't know what it will be like in the summer months, but in the winter months, Dundee can easily enjoy an entire day at the hot beach. The sand isn't hot to the touch, the water keeps him cool, and so long as he sits in the shade, he loves the windy breezes.
Don't worry Dave, Ben still knows its important to do dog logs :o)
